Saving cash in the NHS

The NHS Sustainable Development Unit (SDU) has published some timely guidance on how to save the NHS money; useful information for Financial Directors and Estates Managers. 'Saving Money by Saving Carbon, Decision Making in the NHS using Marginal Abatement Cost Curves' guidance supports the fact that lowering your carbon footprint and increasing sustainability will help reduce costs and in many cases will improve the quality of healthcare.

NHS England Carbon Footprint: GHG emissions 1990-2020 baseline emissions update (SDU, January 2010)

 

The original 1990-2020 baseline emissions study estimated historic CO2 emissions for the period 1990-2004, and forecast emissions to 2020 using a continuing trends analysis. This baseline forecast was used in the carbon reduction strategy2 to overlay targets for future carbon reduction.
