An excellent video with two case studies demonstrating how a
sustainable NHS is better for patient care and can reduce the NHS carbon
footprint. The NHS has the largest carbon footprint in the UK.
Originally estimated at 18 million tonnes per annum, this has now risen
to 21 million tonnes because the NHS now includes other greenhouse gases
in its measurements. CLICK HERE to view on the SDU website.
Guidance on the procurement of electrical and electronic equipment in the NHS with regard to the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations (2006)
The global information and communications
technology (ICT) industry accounts for approximately two percent of global
carbon emissions, a figure equivalent to aviation. All NHS organisations
require significant ICT infrastructure, so organisations should work
with national supply agencies to develop a specification for ICT provision
which fits criteria for low carbon manufacture, energy use, and disposal.
