WRAP - Less waste = lower costs

The Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP) and the SDU have cowritten guidance which will help the NHS reduce construction waste. The guidance is aimed at halving the amount of construction waste going to landfill at a time when landfill costs are rising. The report sets out ways that NHS organisations can improve the sustainability of building works being carried out. See the PDF below for more information.

Sustainable Building Materials Seminar - health, carbon, life

This seminar will help to increase the understanding of what makes building materials sustainable. The choice of materials is governed by a host of factors including function, cost, and sustainability. The seminar will help to identify the synergies between these factors and answer questions such as: How does materials choice affect design and how can more sustainable materials enable more sustainable design? What are the links between materials choice and the health of buildings? How can sustainable materials help to protect and enhance historic buildings? How can these materials help to gain additional credits as part of a Code for Sustainable Homes or BREEAM Assessment? UK Government will Lead the Way on Buying Sustainable Timber (20.01.10)

Environment Secretary Hilary Benn today announced that from 1 April 2010 new social criteria will be added to the UK Government’s timber procurement policy, to add to the existing requirement that all Government bought timber is legal and sustainable.

Central Government is estimated to purchase 20 per cent of all timber bought in the UK. This figure rises to 40 per cent when local authorities and other government bodies are included.
