Defra has updated its carbon conversion factors - this includes a decrease in the electricity factor for all years. This is due to a re-calculation using the international mix of supply. Since we import electricity from France and they have lower factors (much higher use of nuclear energy), this has decreased the factor for all years. Visit the defra site for more information.

From 2011-12, all NHs organisations are to include a section in their Annual Report covering their performance on sustainability during the year. This guidance is applicable to all organisations, including NHS organisations, that produce Annual Reports and Accounts in accordance with the FReM. HM Treaury have produced a useful document that explains the requirements and provides template examples. See the document below or visit HM Treasury website. (From SDU bulletin) The Carbon Trust is currently asking for organisations to sign up to its Public Sector Carbon Management service. The 10 month programme will help public sector bodies develop and implement carbon management plans to achieve five year cost savings and carbon reduction targets. To secure a place on the service next year you will need to identify a Project Leader who will be able to commit around 2 days a week to drive forward carbon management within your organisation. You will also need to identify a committed Director to act as Project Sponsor. If you are interested then email publicsector@carbontrust.co.uk by 31st December 2010.
