Carbon Metrics and Procurement Workshops (Taunton, 01.02.10)

This day of two workshops was held for NHS Sustainability Network members and colleagues on Monday, 1 February in Tauton. The morning session was on 'Metrics & measures for carbon reduction'  and the afternoon session was 'Procurement for Carbon Reduction'. Powerpoint presentations from both sessions are available in the 'resources' list below.

The morning session, led by Hannah Greensmith and Imogen Tennison of the SDU, covered the following and included group discussion and feedback:

  • What are metrics?
  • What can you do now in your organisation?
  • How could you set targets using these metrics?
  • Is this mandatory?

The afternoon session, led by David Wathey, Head of Sustainable Procurement, Department of Health, introduced the recently launched P4CR ‘Procuring for Carbon Reduction’ work which was mentioned in the NHS Carbon Reduction Strategy 2009. The workshop covered the component parts of this work and information on how to start managing the carbon associated with procurement activity including the 'Roadmap' and guidance tools (SCOPE tool and PC4R self assesment).
