Energy Use Audit for NHS Sustainability Day of Action

Monday, February 6, 2012

On the 28th March 2012 the NHS is holding a Day of Action on Sustainability. The organisers (University College London Hospital (UCLH) and the NHS Sustainable Development Unit (SDU)) would like health professionals across the UK to carry out a snap shot audit on energy use in hospitals and clinics. It's easy to carry out, but it needs health professionals in every Trust in the UK to take part.

To date over 25% of NHS trusts and organisations from all over the UK have confirmed participation (many have their logos displayed on the website) - and it is hoped that  50- 75% of the NHS wll participate in this first year of the event. Every audit submitted will help to create a better picture of how the NHS is using or wasting energy.  Importantly it will also highlight opportunities for making savings, which could be translated into patient services. The NHS carbon emissions are already levelling off, an NHS SDU report announced last week, but we need to go further. Please help us to make the NHS a more sustainable organisation.
