WRAP - Less waste = lower costs

The Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP) and the SDU have cowritten guidance which will help the NHS reduce construction waste. The guidance is aimed at halving the amount of construction waste going to landfill at a time when landfill costs are rising. The report sets out ways that NHS organisations can improve the sustainability of building works being carried out. See the PDF below for more information.

Sustainability Network meeting 09.06.10 presentations and information

The NHS Sustainability Network meeting was held at GOSW in Bristol on 9 June 2010. The meeting covered the following topics, with guest speakers presenting information and answering questions (see below for links to presentations):

Natural resources – headlines from work in 2009/10 presentation 09.06.10

 

A presentation given by Steve Tribe and Suki Coe of the Audit Commission at the Sustainability Network meeting on 09 June 2010. It highlights the Audit Commission's sustainability ambitions, the Use of Resources KLOE and outcomes from South West PCTs. It also brings attention to key actions and partnership working that will benefit the PCTs, as well as case studies of high scoring organisations. 

Department of Health Climate Change Plan

 

The Government is leading action nationally and internationally on climate change, through the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and the cross-government Adapting to Climate Change Programme (ACC). The Department of Health (DH) is committed to fully supporting this programme. Through their Climate Change Plan 2010–12, the DH will demonstrate how they are leading by example – across their own estate and operations, and across the health and social care sector – in reducing carbon and greenhouse gas emissions and in addressing their priorities for adaptation.

Our £17bn waste mountain – the annual bill for throwaway Britain

A new report paints the first complete picture of the scale of the UK’s waste mountain, which hit 18.4million tons last year – at a time when the economy was still struggling to emerge from the longest recession on record.
